Course Description:

Effective Electrical Troubleshooting: Digital Storage Oscilloscope Application and Testing

Instructor: Louie Nelson

Sponsored by Advance Auto Parts / Carquest Training Institute (CTI)

This hands-on course will present practical application of Digital Storage Oscilloscope (DSO) techniques. Appropriate testing methods of major automotive systems including fuel, ignition, charging/starting and engine mechanical will be presented. Each system will be approached with the following questions:

What am I working on/how does it work?

What questions do I need answers to for effective analysis?

What DSO technique can I use to obtain those answers?

                What results should I expect?

Learn the best way to setup and capture waveforms that provide precise information for problem analysis. Voltage, current, pressure and comparative multichannel tests will be taught as they best apply to specific components and circuits. Learn how to turn your oscilloscope skills from just “running” your scope into analyzing with your DSO.  This is an all day hands-on class. Students should bring their lab scopes, accessories and chargers if possible.
